How To Request a Roof Reinspection From Your Insurance Company

A reinspection is a second look at your roof by your insurance company, usually after you show them evidence the first inspection missed something. It is one of the most common and least confrontational ways to fix a low estimate or a denial.

When a reinspection makes sense

The adjuster inspected from a ladder or the ground and never walked the roof. Only some slopes were inspected. Damage to gutters, vents, skylights or flashing was left off the estimate. The adjuster called hail bruises “wear,” or the estimate covers a repair when the shingles cannot be matched or repaired properly.

How to request one

Call your claims representative and follow up in writing by email so there is a record. Include your claim number, date of loss and a short explanation of what you believe was missed.

Attach the evidence: an independent photo report with marked hits on each slope, close-ups of fractured shingles and granule loss, dented metal, collateral damage around the property, and storm data for your date of loss.

Ask that your roofer be present for the reinspection so the damage can be pointed out on the roof rather than argued about over the phone.

What to expect

The insurer may send the same adjuster, a different adjuster, or in some cases an engineer. Be there or have your roofer there. Ask for a copy of any new estimate and any engineer report.

Outcomes range from a revised estimate (more slopes, added gutters and vents, a full replacement instead of a repair) to the original decision standing. If it stands and you still disagree, your options include appraisal under your policy, a complaint to your state insurance department, or hiring a licensed public adjuster or attorney.

How we help on reinspections

We do a full, free inspection and produce a slope-by-slope photo report with measurements. We meet the adjuster on the roof and show them exactly what we found. We give you a written, itemized estimate based on the actual roof.

John Beal Roofing is a roofing contractor, not a public adjuster or a law firm. We inspect, document and explain roof damage, and we will meet your adjuster on the roof to show what we found. Negotiating the claim itself is between you and your insurance company, or a licensed public adjuster or attorney you choose. Nothing on this page is legal advice — your policy wording controls.

Frequently asked questions

How do I ask my insurance company to reinspect my roof?

Call your claims rep, then send a written request by email with your claim number, date of loss, what you believe was missed and an independent photo report.

Can my roofer be there for the reinspection?

Yes, you can ask. Having your roofer on the roof with the adjuster lets the damage be shown directly.

What if the reinspection still denies the claim?

You can consider appraisal under your policy, a complaint to your state insurance department, or a licensed public adjuster or attorney.
